Thoughts on Dog

Dog: one part wolf, one part curious affectionate child, three parts smelly, crotch-licking furball with dog breath...large part angel.

Full moon hike up Lions Head

Every month over 2000 people do this. We now feel like we've been initiated - a steep climb with views that fill the eyes & heart, & then the reward of getting to the top, having a cold Windhoek & watching the full moon swell with light over the city, & the sun drown in a liquid sea of gold.

Labia (!) Movie House

Named after Italian Princess Labia in 1949, this is our neighbourhood arty movie theatre. The popcorn, drinks & ticket booths are all run by grey-haired slow-moving characters who take the time to say hi & have a chat. (You just have to make sure you come 10 mins earlier if you want a coffee.) Plump popcorn-fed pigeons swoop in & out of the art deco entrance.

View from our front porch

This Mtn fills a space in my heart I didn't even know I had.

Airports & Passing On

Being in an airport, leaving behind loved ones, embarking on a journey to unknown places...Maybe the experience of dropping your body & passing on is similar? I wonder if you can blog from there?

Sometimes days don't go according to plan

We set off today looking for a place, drove & drove & drove. Gave up & landed up having breakfast served by a waiter whose name was NoMatter!

Watching Cape Town go by

Sitting at my neighbourhood coffee shop, I watch a driver waiting to take a left, waving to 2 pedestrians to pass. They both smile & saunter across the road. He rests his forearms on the wheel, happy to let a whole parade pass. People here seem more relaxed, with more time to stop & chat, to let people pass on the road. Maybe the Mtn's presence is a reminder of bigger, slower things?

Saturday brunch in Camps Bay

On a warm day when spring dances in the breeze & winter casts lingering glances over its shoulder as it makes its way over the mtn.

On the way to a meeting

I stumble upon a well designed square with statues of people walking, sitting, talking on cell phones. Real people bustle past them oblivious.

Pink daydreams

Another day, yet another cupcake (tho to be exact, it was a salmon puff). Luckily I'm walking a lot or else I'd start to look like a cupcake myself!

Spring arrived while I was away

My 1st walk in the park after 5 weeks away! It feels strange-familiar to be home...after a hot summer's week in Barcelona then a month of icy winter, workshops, meetings & the warmth of friends & family, followed by a week in the Berg as winter retreated to the peaks & spring tiptoed shyly into the foothills.

Dreamhouse hunting in Kommetjie

On a morning when kite surfers dance with the wind & waves, & the future beckons us round the next curve.

Weekend in Kommetjie

A long lazy breakfast @ Sunset Beach B&B with rain lashing the roof & the ocean grey & misty...

A celestial slide

On a sun-sparkling morning I perch on a merry-go-round & watch the world curve slowly past.

Season of mists & mellow fruitfulness

An autumn weekend spent in wine & food country, in a village called Franschhoek filled with antique shops, gourmet restaus & pretty houses.

An autumn tree

After a productive morning, the rest of my day was spent bathing myself in autumn: golden reds & sharp earthy crackle of leaves.

Footy in Khayelitsha

Sunday morning in Khayelitsha township watching a footy match that Joel umpired. A big windy field, & 2 teams of gangly players.

When autumn leaves are falling

Like a leaf wafting gently through the air & coming to rest on the soggy earth, the realisation that this is my new life sinks in to my inner soil.

Another long day!

Tired legs, empty purses & parched throats - time for cold beers & some seafood.

Afternoon tea @ Mt Nelson (still)

Lovely long afternoon with a piano player providing the soundtrack.
